Clinical Desk

The Clinical Desk is a live board for running the day: who’s expected, who’s here, and who’s with a doctor. It’s the first page under Appointments in the sidebar.

You need Read appointments or Assignable to appointments to open it. With only Assignable to appointments, you see just your own appointments.

Appointments for the chosen day are sorted into five columns:

Column Appointments with status
Expected Scheduled, Confirmed or Rescheduled
Checked in Checked in
With doctor In progress
Awaiting checkout Awaiting checkout
Done today Completed

Cancelled and No show appointments aren’t shown. A Rescheduled appointment shows under Expected on its new date. It must be Confirmed (on its page) before it can be checked in: Check in on a rescheduled card is refused until then.

Each card shows the time, the patient, the appointment type, the clinician (or Unassigned), and a mark for High priority. Select a card to see a quick view, then View full details to open the appointment.

The board updates by itself: when an appointment moves to another column, here or on someone else’s screen, it slides across and a short chime plays.

Each card has one button for the next step:

Column Button Moves the appointment to
Expected Check in Checked in
Checked in Start In progress
With doctor Checkout Awaiting checkout
Awaiting checkout Complete Completed

Every card shows its column’s button. Whether the change goes through depends on your role: staff with Update or Manage appointments can make any of them, while a clinician who only has Assignable to appointments can Start and Checkout their own appointments. Otherwise Meddesk refuses the change with a message. Other changes, such as Cancelled, No show or Rescheduled, are made on the appointment’s page.

  • Day: pick Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow, or Choose a date.
  • Search by patient name or #ID…: filter the board.
  • My patients: show only appointments assigned to you. You see this if you can be assigned to appointments.
  • Bell: Mute or Unmute the status-change chime. Your choice is remembered in this browser.
  • New walk-in: add an appointment for a patient who’s already here. Saving it needs Create appointments.

Use this for a patient who walks in without a booking.

  1. Select New walk-in.
  2. Pick the Patient. Not registered yet? Select Patient not registered? Add them.
  3. Check the Date & time. It starts at the current time.
  4. Choose the Type (starts as Consultation) and Priority (starts as Medium).
  5. Optionally add a Room, a Clinician and the Duration (minutes).
  6. Select Add appointment.

You see Walk-in appointment added. It appears under Expected. Select Check in when you’re ready.
