Patient Portal settings

The patient portal is a separate website where your patients sign in to see their appointments and records and to request appointments. These settings control what patients see there. You need the System administrator permission to change them.

To manage patients’ portal accounts and their appointment requests, see Patient users and Appointment requests.

Open Configuration › Patient Portal. When you’re done, select Save changes. You see Patient portal settings updated.

Dashboard message is shown to every patient under the welcome heading on their portal dashboard. It can use headings, bold text and lists. You can write it in each of your clinic’s languages: an untranslated language starts from the default language’s text for you to edit. Leave it blank to show nothing.

It starts as: “Manage your appointments, treatments, and records all in one place.”

Browser title is shown in the browser tab and window title of the patient portal. It’s required in your default language and starts as “Patient Portal”.

This decides which days and times patients can ask for an appointment. For each day of the week:

  • Tick the day to allow requests on it. Unticked days are closed.
  • Pick the opening and closing time (in half-hour steps). Patients can choose a time from the opening time up to, but not including, the closing time.

At first, Monday to Saturday are open from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and Sunday is closed. A day you tick starts at 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

These hours use your clinic’s timezone.

These hours only limit requests. Staff can still book appointments at any time in the console.

When you link to the portal from your website, a message or a social media post, add ?lang= and a language code to open it in that language: en (English), fa (Dari), ps (Pashto), ar (Arabic), ru (Russian) or tr (Turkish). For example, https://portal.example.com/?lang=fa opens the portal in Dari.

The portal remembers that language for the patient, who can still change it with Language. A language your clinic doesn’t offer is ignored and the portal opens in your default language.

Some modules add their own portal settings below these, each in its own card that saves on its own. They only appear while that module is turned on:

Card Module What it does
Choosing a practitioner Staff Schedules Lets patients pick a practitioner when requesting an appointment, and only offers that person’s free times.
