The Dashboard

The Dashboard is the first page you see after signing in. It greets you by first name, shows today’s date, and below that shows widgets: small cards that each answer one question, like “what’s on today?” or “how much came in this month?”.

You build your own dashboards, and your clinic can also share dashboards with whole roles. Everyone can open the Dashboard. No permission is needed.

  • Greeting and date: Good morning, Good afternoon, Good evening or Good night, depending on the time.
  • What’s new: when Meddesk has a recent update, a short notice appears here with Read more, which opens What’s new.
  • Add widget: adds a widget to the dashboard you’re looking at. You only see this button if you’re allowed to change that dashboard.
  • Dashboard switcher: the button with the current dashboard’s name. It opens Dashboards, where you switch between dashboards and manage them.

When you have no dashboard yet, you see No widgets yet and an Add widget button. Adding your first widget automatically creates a personal dashboard called Dashboard for you.

  1. Select Add widget.
  2. Pick a widget from the list. Widgets are grouped into categories such as Overview, Appointments, Patients and Finance.
  3. The widget appears at the end of the dashboard.

Each widget can only be on a dashboard once. When every widget available to you is already there, you see You’ve got them all!

  • Move: drag a widget by its handle (Drag to move) to a new place.
  • Remove: open the widget’s menu (Widget actions) and select Remove.

You can only move or remove widgets on a dashboard you’re allowed to change.

Many widgets say “for a period you choose”. They have a period picker, for example Today, Last 7 Days, This Month or Last 12 Months, or Custom… to pick your own start and end dates.

  • On a dashboard you can change, the period you pick is saved with the widget.
  • On a shared dashboard you can only view, you can still change the period. Your choice is saved for you alone and doesn’t change what others see.

Open the Dashboards window from the dashboard switcher. You can:

  • Open any dashboard to view it. The one you’re on is marked Viewing.
  • Make this my default: the default dashboard is the one that opens when you go to the Dashboard. It is marked Your default dashboard. If you haven’t picked one, the first dashboard in your list is used.
  • Hide a dashboard you don’t need. Hidden dashboards move to the Hidden section and are only hidden for you. Show brings one back. Making a hidden dashboard your default also un-hides it.
  • Create dashboard: give it a Name and select Save. You can name it in more than one language if your clinic uses several.
  • Edit a dashboard’s name (and sharing, see below), or Delete it. Deleting removes its widgets too and can’t be undone.

Every dashboard is either:

  • Personal: only you can see and change it.
  • Shared: visible to the roles you choose, under Visible to roles. Everyone holding one of those roles sees it in their list, marked Shared.

Only staff with the Create, edit and share dashboards permission can share a dashboard, change who it’s shared with, or edit and delete shared dashboards. Everyone else sees shared dashboards read-only.

When you edit a dashboard, Who can see it lets you choose Personal or Shared:

  1. Open Dashboards and select Edit next to the dashboard.
  2. Under Who can see it, choose Shared.
  3. Under Visible to roles, pick one or more roles.
  4. Select Save.

If a shared dashboard has no roles yet, it shows Not visible to any role yet. Only staff who manage shared dashboards can see it until you add roles.
